I started researching Hemingway quotes this morning thinking it would be a good place to begin as a basis for a blog post.
While I was reading the following one on my computer– 'Every man's life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguish one man from another.'– the news of ESPN’s Stuart Scott's passing came across the screen.
Stuart received the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance last July. The clip not only inspires me, but demonstrates his courage, honesty, self-deprecation and humor. His statement, ‘You beat cancer by how you live, why you live and in the manner in which you live’ are words he believed to the core and lived out in practice.
I realize this post is a bit somber, but the lesson is the same for everyone. Stuart Scott changed the world of sports journalism not simply by how he presented and discussed the topics, but in the manner in which he lived. His influence is irrefutable as will be his legacy. I will miss his wit and humor, and hearing him say, ‘As cool as the other side of the pillow.’ If anyone deserves that being said about them, it’s you Stuart. R.I.P
